HTML Help

The World Wide Web Consortium—The W3C sets the standards for HTML and related languages for web programming. Always start here to gain some knowledge, though if you're new to web development, the technical language can seem a bit daunting at first.

Web Design on About.com—Lots of information and articles, plus a forums area where you can get feedback on your website from other designers.

Web Design Group—A comprehensive listing of tutorials and tips.

Web Monkey—Excellent collection of articles, techniques and other resources.

HTML/XML on About.com—Excellent articles and forums offering help and advice. In the Forums section, you can participate in a self-paced HTML class or ask questions of more experienced designers.

Big Nose Bird—The fabulous site with the funny name! This site has lots of tutorials with plain-English explanations, and WONDERFUL cgi scripts and other tools for your site.

W3Schools.com—Some of the best tutorials I've ever seen on a variety of aspects of web programming, including HTML, XHTML, and CSS.

Page Resource.Com—Another very good collection of tutorials on a wide variety of web languages and techniques.

Web Software

Macromedia—The industry leader in web development and multimedia software applications. Makers of Dreamweaver, HomeSite, and Flash, among others. (This site designed with HomeSite.)

SoftQuad—Makers of Hotmetal Pro.

Jasc Software—Makers of Paint Shop Pro, an affordable, yet comprehensive graphics development program.

GlobalScape Software—Cute FTP software and several others.

Hosting and Other Services

Dreamhost—Offers a lot of services for not a lot of money. For what it's worth, my sites are hosted through this company.

Addy and Associates—One of my customers uses this hosting service. I find their support staff to be outstanding and very accommodating.

Imagicomm—The place to go for automated e-mail list services. The customer service and pricing can't be beat!

PayPal—If you need to handle an online transaction, but don't have e-commerce capabilities, this might be a good solution for starters.

Web Accessibility

Web Accessibility Initiative—An important project of the W3C. These guidelines will help you to ensure that your web site can be accessed by individuals who use common assistive technologies, such as screen readers. Ever skipped putting an ALT tag in your image? Now you'll learn why you need them.

Bobby—A neat little utility designed to flag inaccessible HTML programming. As with any automated HTML validator, it is not fool-proof, but will give you an idea of things to look for when designing web sites that are accessible.

Viewable With Any Browser: The Campaign for a Non-Browser Specific WWW—The principles of this site seem to be based in the principles of web access.

Microsoft Accessibility Home Page If you "do" Windows, check out this site! Lots of helpful information.

Section 508.gov—The Federal Government's requirements for making all electronic and information technologies it buys or uses to disseminate information accessible to an usable by people with disabilities.

Paint Shop Pro Tutorials

Paint Shop Pro Users Group—I've been using Paint Shop Pro for years now, but only recently have I discovered this site. It has excellent tutorials, message forums, and a "buddy system" where more experienced users can be paired with beginners who need additional help with specific problems.

Robin's Paint Shop Pro Resources—Probably the largest collection of tutorials I've ever seen in one place.

Pinoy VII—I'm not sure what the name of this site means, but I love the tutorials here!! The button bar at the left of this page was inspired by a tutorial I discovered there.
